Swiftwater Rescue Technician Advanced (SRTA)
This course integrates techniques learned in SRT1 and TRR:TL, taking the students beyond the emphasis on self-rescue to concentrate on victim rescue. Students are exposed to more complex water rescue situations including a mock night river rescue scenario. The three day course includes 4-6 hours of classroom instruction, followed by two and one-half days of hands-on skill development.
Students are introduced to the role and utilization of various skills in river and flood rescue, including:
- rope systems
- management of litter & patient raising systems
- highline systems
- advanced river search concepts
- performing rescues at night or in low visibility
- and basic flood disaster management.
Completion of the SRTA along with SRT and TRRTL satisfies the requirement outlined in NFPA 1670 Surface/Swift Water Technician Level. This qualified graduates to operate on a Swift Water/Flood Search & Rescue team according to NFPA.

Note: Certain equivalent rope courses may be accepted. Please contact your instructor, regional director or Rescue 3 corporate office for more information about what equivalents are accepted in your area. Please note: not all regions allow equivalent courses. Also, students who attend with equivalent certifications but do not have sufficient knowledge to complete course requirements may not receive certification.

Students gain knowledge in hydrology and river classifications, size-up, site control and scene management. Practical skills include self-rescue, swiftwater swimming and the fundamentals of shore, boat and in-water rescues. Additionally students are introduced to the basics of boat handling and the fundamentals of rope rescue including mechanical advantage and anchor systems.

Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Boat Operator (SFRBO)
The Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Boat Operator program combines all of the skills learned in the Flood Rescue Boat Operator and Swiftwater Rescue Boat Operator courses. Students will learn to handle boats in both flat and moving water (Class III), as well as how to perform rescues safely and effectively in both environments.

Rope Rescue Operator (RRO)
This 30-hour course is delivered over four days and provides students with the fundamentals of rope rescue in the low-angle environment. Students learn and practice skills preplanning and size-up of rope rescue operations, knots, anchor systems, belay operations, ascending and descending lines, mechanical advantage systems, patient packaging & litter attending. Students learn how to safely navigate low-angle or over-the-bank rescue situations and assist rescuers in high-angle environments. The Rope Rescue Operator (RRO) course introduces the knowledge and skills required by personnel to operate safely and effectively during rope rescues and be an active part of a rope rescue team working under the supervision of Rope Rescue Technicians.

Rope Rescue Technician (RRT)
This 30 hour course is delivered over four days and is designed to take students from basic over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical scenarios. Students learn and practice such skills as preplanning, size-up and scene management, ascending and descending, belaying, mechanical advantage systems, lowering and raising systems, patient packaging and litter attending, tethers, and highlines. The Rope Rescue Technician (RRT) course covers concepts and techniques to enable small teams to undertake technical rope rescues. A building block approach is used throughout the course so that candidates can progress from key concepts through to the rigging and operation of full systems for raising, lowering and highline rescues.
